I forgot how hard it is to start a fresh story from the beginning. I’ve got my little half-ar*ed guide and whatnot—I definitely didn’t do the Preptober prep well enough—but getting those first words onto the page and ignoring the scenes I want to write most has been a lot harder than I thought it would be 😅. I’m doing that in hopes it will pay off when I need to edit and re-draft as one of the biggest issues with Rini & Butler is that I wrote it as a bunch of scenes and then Frankenstein’d it together and then had to unstitch it and figure out how to stop it looking like a jammed jigsaw puzzle 😮‍💨

I won’t feel discouraged if I don’t hit the 40,000 words by November 8th; it was really a “reach for the stars so you land in the clouds” ambitious sort of goal. I just know that when I go back to work, as we creep towards the end-of-year-holidays season, I am going to be mentally drained and so want to get as much headway on [Rini & Butler 2] as I can.
