What happened last week?
I worked on some of the errors in Rini & Butler that my family friend let me know about (this is the same co-worker that watched me wail in the break room when she told me). I also double-triple-checked the timeline to make sure I don’t accidentally rug-yank the release.
I have also been working on the meeting scenes between Elaryn/Reyn and their siblings in Say Nope to the Trope. I’ve done a thing I’m notorious for in my writing and that’s making massive families. It suits the plot for SNttT but at the same time I realise that the current structure of the series makes the meetings quite tight and rushed and so I am rethinking the size of each chapter. This is the first big hurdle I’m facing with the series and I’ll want to have it fixed before October. Though the point of the experiment is to improve the writing throughout the series, I don’t want too many people to read the first volume and be put off by it to the point they won’t return for the later story or improved chapters.
I had a bunch of other plans that were postponed due to the house feeling ill and this strange and bothersome snap heat. Ostara hasn’t even come yet and we’re getting hit with warnings of the summer. I don’t operate very well in the heat. Yes, I am a Brisbanite for 12 years and I still do not operate well in the heat. It makes me tired and gives me brain fog.
What’s happening next week?
This week, I’m taking advantage of the fact September is a “break” period in my writing schedule and trying to get ahead of the coming October.
Coming this week is the 50 day mark for the countdown for Rini & Butler!

This week I am also ironing out those few bothersome typos before submitting the final upload ahead of the release. Though I don’t expect it to be perfect—people and grammar checkers have been at odds with me over commas and such—there are a couple of mistakes that I regard as grievous and would like to remove them. If you’re one of the first 20 to purchase a book from me directly, however, you will likely find yourself in possession of a limited and special edition typo version and you have my gratitude and apologies for that. Please don’t show the others. Those blunders are for your eyes only.
I want to say another big thanks to those supporting me on this journey! Every now and then I have my doubts about myself but so far most people have been incredibly encouraging, probably even more than they realise. I’ve been quite isolated as a writer my whole life and it’s only now that I’m realising that a lot of what I lack can be found in others. Thank you.
