An umbrella, pies, birds, the city “bush”, rain, parks, scissors, hoodies and a butler uniform. Running around through the trees and navigating the concrete jungle.

I sometimes worry that the aesthetic of Rini & Butler means it might not find its readers. Though I am infatuated with the cover and the book, I have had the anxious thought or two that it doesn’t correctly communicate the contents of the book. The first time I handed over a copy to a reader, they thought it was surely a romance novel. There really isn’t anything on the cover that tells you it’s a science fiction novel either … so I also worry about that 😅 . So many worries!

BUT, at the end of the day, the aesthetic that I’ve used for the cover, for the “marketing”, for the colour codes in the notes and whatnot … it all feels right. And I think that’s what matters most 😊 . Though publishing—and self-publishing at that as I am the entire team—is “business” and I have to make sure I consider those aspects, Rini & Butler is my passion first!
