There are 10 days left of Writvember and I have written only 11,000 words since the writing retreat finished (ᵕ—ᴗ—).

It’s so strange how the human body and mind works. I went from writing 43,000 words in about 5 days to having only written 11,000 in the last two weeks. And I’ve been trying!

Juggling work and everything else now that I’m not on leave is definitely been a contributing factor and I haven’t been managing the stress levels this past fortnight like I usually do. I’ve been looking at my calendar to set aside a day for just writing and hope I can create a “cram day” affect like with the last two writing retreats. The only issue is that I will actually be twice as busy in the last 10 days of May that I’ve been in the last two weeks (⌒_⌒;)

It’s not the end of the world if I don’t finish the first draft of Blade’s Gauntlet contained within May, but I was hoping to have whipped my writing habits into a workable structure. I think part of the issue is that Blade’s Gauntlet is part of a series I’ve envisioned for so long that I really want to make sure I get it right.

I definitely made the right call with adjusting the series structure and splitting the first book in half. I just need to be a bit more patient with myself and the story. As much as I want to have a first draft by the end of the month, nothing good ever comes out of forcing the story. Doing that typically only creates more work for when I need to edit it.

If I don’t have all 96,000 words ready by June, I at least want to hit a benchmark of 80,000 words (ง •̀_•́)ง

We’ll see how I go. Happy writing!
