I have the same two books next to my bed that I think I was reading when I moved back upstairs once covid started to die down in my state. By that, I mean that I’ve barely scraped through my covid reading list. Good news is that, now I’ve graduated, I don’t have an excuse, and hopefully I’ll feel less stressed about time.

Birthdays for the Dead, Stuart MacBride
Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë

I haven’t yet decided whether I want to continue these two straight away or start on something else to try and rekindle the fire. But I’m not sure what I feel like reading at the moment. Maybe some historical? Or fantasy? Historical fantasy? Is that a thing? In any case, it’s not as if I don’t have anything to choose from.

On the other hand, I have been doing a bit more digital reading to educate myself on various areas, or even just reading a couple of news pieces. I’m also going through assessment work to clean them a bit before popping appropriate ones through here. I think re-reading them will be good to remind me of what my goals are. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do and where I want to be in the next couple of years but I need to really look at what I can do and what I need to improve in terms of gaining proof of my abilities. That’s basically what job-hunting for something in my desired profession has really hammered into me. I have been doing a lot more pathway planning and reading up on how to develop the professional profile I need for the job that I want.

I also want to spend more time actively reading other people’s blogs. I used to spend some time in the reader but as I got busier, I would just come on now and then, post and then leave. I was struggling so much with my own blogging/writing that I felt like I didn’t have time to read the work of others, but I think that was part of the problem. If I’m not writing, I should at least be reading. Even if it’s not a book from the great stack of READ MEs that I have.
