This is the collection of minute writing posts for the week ( ੭ ・ᴗ・ )੭

  • Minute Writing #001 How many words could one write in a minute? I suppose it depends on how many images can be conjured and translated into words. That’s what I’ll be practising with for a little bit. Ejecting whatever’s in my brain for a minute. We have twenty seconds left and that tension scrambles my brain.
  • Minute Writing #002 There’s a lot of pressure when starting a writing minute. Mostly on whether or not it counts when I think about it or when I touch the keys. The problem about waiting to touch the keys is that it’s hard to watch the timer but sometimes when I start the timer my brain freezes and I don’t get anything in the first twenty seconds. Does the panic that ensues count?
  • Minute Writing #003 She told me that she has an imaginary friend and so I have to sit in a different chair. I play along to be polite, introduce myself and offer to shake the friend’s hand. She tells me he’s much taller than me and so I need to reach up more. I ask if he can meet me halfway, laughing. I stop laughing when something shakes my hand back.
  • Minute Writing #004 I hate the stickiness of heat. I don’t like summer and though I’m appreciative of all the sun does, I often hiss at it to go away. But it comes down to the stickiness of the heat. The way my skin grabs onto surfaces and other skin. The way the fan can’t keep it dry. Like I’m constantly being licked by a large dog. It’s gross.
  • Minute Writing #005 Sometimes I get a migraine that’s annoying like a fly. It comes and goes with a frustrating persistence and unpredictability. But like a fly brandishing two daggers at me, stabbing me as it comes and goes.
  • Minute Writing #006

Minute writing becomes hard if you stop and try to edit the sentence whilst you’re writing it. As soon as you start thinking about the words too much, the flow stalls and the seconds run away from you. But that’s the point of the exercise, to get that dam bursting. Release the words! They yearn to be free! Just catch them and put them on the page instead of letting them away!
