Good morning! Wishing everyone a good February and Lammas or Lughnasa. For this turn of the wheel, I am celebrating Lamma by throwing a small feast that will also coincide with a marathon of the Blade Trilogy. They’re not quite related but bundling events and things I want to do has been working out for me so far.

The reason I’m watching the Blade Trilogy is because I bought it for myself for my thirtieth birthday. Blade is my favourite “superhero” and was the one I loved watching as a child and teen. As an adult, however, it’s been difficult to watch it. Now that streaming is the norm, I have almost no physical media compared to when I was in high school. I can only watch snippets of the movie on YouTube and they’re never the best of quality. Until now, that is.

I’ve started separating myself from streaming sites, missing physical media and the fact that I have it in my possession and it can’t be taken away suddenly by it being removed from a streaming platform or me cancelling the subscription because the price has gone up egregiously … again. And so I did something I haven’t done since 2021: I bought a DVD.

Well, I bought three, technically. Flicking through the menu was strangely exciting and I’ve been waiting for marathon day since the end of December. With a collective runtime of 360 minutes (almost exactly), it will take most of the day to get through but I’m planning for it to be a fun cinema experience. I’ve started doing that. Trying to properly focus on relaxing or the hobby at hand rather than the biting urge to be trying to do three things at once.

The menu theme: harvest and vampires.

Blade[cinema classics]
– raspberry lemonade
– popcorn
– Maltesers

Blade II[feast]
– mini roast lamb
– roast vegetables: potatoes, corn
– wine/apple cider

Blade Trinity[wind down]
– ice cream
– cinnamon scrolls

I’m grateful that I have the freedom and time to have a Blade marathon for Lammas. I’m grateful that my life is stable and I am able to find ways to enjoy it. Every day it feels like less and less people are able to do so. I am working on expressing my gratitude for what I have by ensuring that I don’t waste it.
