Sometimes I pile up so many things I want to do that I just get overwhelmed and none of them get done! (•̀⤙•́ )
It’s a bad habit of mine and extends into almost everything I do. My hobbies and writing and even just moving from point A to B. I become distracted quickly and just have so much that I want to do and need to do!

Recently, I have figured out a way to combat this, and it includes doing what I don’t want to do most: putting everything away (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

The reason I don’t like putting things away is because, once I can’t see it anymore, I forget it exists. The problem is, when I have 20 projects on my desk at once, they all simultaneously cause each other to cease to exist anyway and I bounce in between them all so often that I get not much done. So, my solution is to clear off my desk and put everything away, ignoring the screaming inner voice saying “but we’re working on that!” 。゚(TヮT)

I think this works for me for three reasons:

  1. The act of clearing off my desk is a quick and easy way of achieving a task that makes me feel good (I love sorting and tidying, despite how chaotic my spaces can get) and acts as a productivity warm up.
  2. By removing all the projects, I’m able to pick one or two that I REALLY want to do. If I have the motivation to put it away and them grab it back out, then I feel encouraged that I want to work on it enough that I can focus on it. This even works for when I end up with four different writing projects and close all of them. The one I REALLY want to open back up is the one I’ll be able to get stuck into.
  3. The removal of clutter and multiple stimuli helps me to reset my mind as well. Whilst everything is still on my desk, I’m constantly being prompted by each project (this goes for windows and tabs open on my desktop) and so removing them all eliminates the jumping tracks of thought.

So, if you’re ever struggling with juggling at your desk, maybe trying resetting it. May all your desks be blessed with productivity, creativity and warmth ⋆.ೃ࿔*:・

I’ve been there many times. It is so true that clearing your workspace is a good feeling of productivity.
