I’ve been looking forward to May for a long time. New place, edge of winter, and it will be my partner’s birthday towards the end of the month. I have plans for a lot this month, and most of it is finally putting together ideal organisation for myself and my work. Now that I have my own spaces, I have room to experiment and put together more efficient ways of doing things. I’m a very visual person (particularly now that my memory has retired), but with my office, my partner’s office, and our bedroom being in the one room, along with random things stored, it was hard to find space to put up the kinds of planning boards and calendars that I really need. I’m also looking forward to putting together a writing board, like an actual board, where I can hopefully be reminded of things I keep forgetting and constantly be reminded to think of what I need to do/fix.
This first week of May is going to be about finding my routine in the new house. The weekend was so busy with sorting the move and new furniture and unpacking, and throughout the week I’ll need to return to the old house to finish throwing things out and preparing it for a bond clean. Amongst that, I really want to get into the routine I want for the new place. Now that there’s space for it and I’ve had some practice at the old house, I want to properly manage the household this time. Nothing fancy really, but just getting homey things done that I need to. All the things that I couldn’t do in the old house because of my abhorrence for it and the sharing of spaces, I will now get to do. I have an entire book to get through, and I’ve been waiting for months to use it.
Writing
May will also focus on cleaning up X again. After my partner read through, we agreed that there were some pacing issues in the end due to suddenly splitting it into a sequel. I’ve changed the ending slightly and am gearing up for the fourth edit … but I don’t wanna. No matter how much I love X and having written it, I’m finding it hard to sit down and read through it for the fourth time. But I’m meant to be preparing it for another person to read, so I really need to find that motivation.
I installed ClickUp sometime in April and have been setting up a lot of writing work for me to do, and so there will be more to talk about once I’ve set up my new systems. It’s mostly a lot of EDIT EDIT WRITE WRITE FIX THIS.
Reading
Now is the time for me to start reading again! I need to be reading every day, and I have plenty of books I own that I haven’t read yet so I really don’t have an excuse. I was waiting for the new place, and now I’m here, I’m hoping I can actually reach my reading goals for the year. I don’t think I’ve finished a novel in a while, a lot of graphic novels but no ‘traditional’ novels. So, hopefully by the end of the week I have something to comment on in that regard.
