I haven’t yet started writing again (the past few days have been exhausting) but coming off of my brainstorming, I feel good about getting back into it soon. I have work today, but I just have dinners on Friday and Saturday and then work on Monday and Tuesday, and then I’m technically in the holidays. I’ll be working on a new flex-schedule for myself and preparing for the new year, making sure I’m in the right gear. I’m not someone who “believes” in everything starting anew on the New Year, but I do think that the feeling and going through the motions of preparing for and starting a new year is therapeutic and helps excite me for the year. I’m also definitely ready to step out of 2020 and start a new year.

In the coming week, I want to start preparing what I’m going to work on. By that I mean, going through all of my projects and making some proper assessments on the quality, relevancy, potential etc. of the works to decide what I should focus on. X is definitely something I will be working on, as I still consider it my current project. My “platinum” project is something that I continually pull out and put away, never feeling quite ready to continue writing it (having scrapped over 800 pages of just the first book over the past ten years). I don’t know if anyone else has a “platinum” project, or a “golden” project … I used to call it my “ultimate work”, amongst other things. I always thought it would be my first piece I would send off, but now I want to wait until I can do it the justice I feel that it deserves.

Does anyone have a project like that?

X is like my “Goldilocks” project. It’s just right. I’m in love with it, and I think that I’ve written it well and will be able to edit and proof it well. Of course there’s a lot of work to still do on it, but what I’m trying to say really is that I’m confident in it; I feel good about it.

I do want to practice writing short stories more. Reading short stories more diversely is giving me a better idea on how to tackle my issue of writing short stories. I’ve been doing a little of this with my “Quick Writing” but don’t think I’ve really grasped it with those just yet either.

What I really should be writing right now is my Writing Goals for 2021! Hopefully I’ll get around to that later today after work.
