It has been raining here for the past couple of days and it’s lovely (all except the impending flooding of under the house). It isn’t raining so hard that it’s flooding the streets but I hope all the animals have a pleasant place to stay while it rains. That’s one thing I sometimes forget about when I wish for the rains and storms and enjoy them, that it’s easy for me to want to enjoy them while I have a roof over my head and warm food. It’s the rain and the wind that I love the most.

This week was fairly busy but work had some different things in store for me, and they were exciting. I did a lot more reading this week compared to previous (meaning I actually did some reading), both on the WordPress reader and for work (so I can’t talk about the contents of the writing but I can say that they were really fun and interesting to read).

It’s easy to forget how reading work can sometimes rewind and get your creative gears going again. I think I worry way too much about being unoriginal. I’ve never actively stolen ideas and I’ve never borrowed anything more than a writing prompt (unless I’m writing fanfic … where there are no rules) and so I’m not sure why I’m so worried about it. It inhibits how freely I read and is one of the major reasons I don’t like reading overtly commercial fiction (other than that some of it is honestly garbage and I don’t agree with how they portray certain things … might have to do another post on that to unpack what I mean here). Trends in writing are undeniable and are important to know about, but I guess I just don’t want to produce something that people think is just a cheap replica of something that’s already there. I like to think that I’m a better writer than that, and more conscious of those sorts of things, but it’s still something that I struggle with. Actually, I might need to unpack this entire paragraph in a separate post.

This afternoon, I am DMing my last session for the year before the ‘holidays’ really start, and then I’ll be preparing for the week to come.
