With some more industry experience, I’ve been thinking more about what kind of content I’m putting on my blog, particularly now that I’m looking at more blogs about the process/theory/history of writing. I don’t have much ‘theoretical’ content on my blog, and that’s mostly because I don’t know enough about it. I’m not great at articulating what writing ‘is/was/can be’. I don’t have a great grasp of the theoretical concepts of writing, and by that I mean, I really just don’t think about it enough. When I’m writing, I consider a lot more about my audience and the message I’m sending but still don’t really think about the ‘history of genre’ or how to ‘transform it’. I can read it and understand it well enough, but it’s not yet something that I’m confident in putting forward myself and so that’s going to be one of my professional goals for 2021 that I’ll start working on after graduation.

I think the next year will be a review of the last three years and reflecting/applying what I’ve learned. Right now, I can’t really put anything original together in terms of more ‘academic writing’ and so I’ll probably start with topics that are already being discussed a lot before moving on to starting anything on my own. I think, especially with writing, there is already so much to consider, read, write and discuss.

The goals for this blog at the moment are concerned with improving the quality and range of the content. I also need to get back into actually posting more writing practice! The blog for the past few months has been mostly me trying to deal with life and sort out my mind when it comes to my career path.

Blog/”Professional Profile” Goals

  1. Post more Frequently
  2. Post better Quality
  3. Post a better Range of Content

Now, what I’ve learnt from my internship unit is that it helps to break down goals a lot more. Which is something that I’m surprised that wasn’t just common sense for me. But I think that just falls under the category of “I don’t know what I don’t know”. “Aims & Objectives” is how I think about it now. I think, before my positive experience during my internship, that I didn’t really believe I could make any sort of professional profile. There are a lot of things that I didn’t believe I would ever be able to do that I have actually achieved, and so now I’m a lot more motivated to try and grab a hold of what I want.

This is what I’ll be starting with:

1. Post More Frequently

  1. Post on at least three different days a week
  2. Return to posting on a schedule for consistency

2. Post Better Quality

  1. Ensure I’m editing and proofreading all of my content
  2. Run posts against an established criterion

3. Post a Better Range of Content

  1. Draw up monthly (or weekly) targets for different types of writing
  2. Post one piece of fictional (can be practice) writing each week
