I’ve finished my second day of my internship! I really enjoy it, I’m not sure just yet if I’m doing well or need a lot of work but I definitely want to try and end up in the publishing industry somewhere. Of course, there are some difficulties with the job but that’s mostly on trying to separate ‘good work’ from ‘appropriate work for publisher’. Some of what I’ve read is amazing but not right for whom I’m interning for and it’s about finding that appropriate measure. I’ve been reading published works from them and trying to build a gauge in my development journal of what to dismiss or keep working on.

One thing that I have learned is that I write in an American style, and I want to start switching over to the Australian style (because duh). I don’t know how I’m going to adjust to singular quotation marks for dialogue though, haha, I’ve always hated how it looks. But it’s something that I’m going to have to do if I want to fit myself into the industry. It’s also a reflection on how much American literature I’ve read and so it’s encouraging me to keep going with actively seeking more work by Australian authors.

This week I dedicated most of my time to my literature review and then the day after that winding down from it and then today working and thinking about (translation: not actually doing too much work on it but fretting over it) my writing project. My publishing proposal is due next week and I have my critical essay to start building as well. I also have to think about the appointments I need to make, the ones I need to attend and which ones are medical, which ones are personal and which ones are for uni. Is this what it feels like to be a functioning adult? Or is it simply a consequence of the state of the world at the moment and it just feels like I’m in a vortex of to-do notes.

I haven’t done any writing recently but I’m hoping to get some done on the weekend… hopefully.
