All of my paperwork has been done, and I am finally green lit to begin my internship hours. I have 100 hours to complete and about nine weeks to do it. I’m really looking forward to getting the real-world experience, and I was lucky enough to be accepted by a publishing house that in my top preferences (was my first and really only preference). I will be starting my hours on Friday and I’m intent on making sure I get the most out of this that I can, especially where my professional development is concerned.

The first real assignment is coming up around the corner and it hasn’t been the greatest. I’m finding my literature review a little difficult because I’ve never done one before and the issue that I’m writing on is one of the reasons that I’m struggling.

The implications of a non-Indigenous Australian dominated writing and publishing industry on First Nations People.

The problems that I’ve come across are this: primarily, the texts that address this matter are written by non-Indigenous Australians, and that’s the opposite of what I want. Though I can use this as part of my argument, it’s a little bitter-sweet to find all of these articles and books and have them be written by non-Indigenous People. What’s worse are the suggested questions that come up in Google, but it’s probably better that those questions are asked there instead of in person, although then there’s the issue of misinformation.

My more central issue with the literature review is that I’m not sure that I’m doing it correctly. I’m not one-hundred on the difference between the lit review and an ordinary essay where I’m using a lot of resources on the same subject. Based on the definition that my uni gives of a literature review, I think what I’m lacking is the comparing of resources. So far, everything just really forms one opinion. Perhaps I’m too used to trying to just find references that back up what I want to say?

I’m going to look at more examples and refine my draft to make sure it becomes a proper literature review. In the meantime, I also need to take a look at what will be expected of me for my other assessment tasks and start refining my plans for them and starting them if they’re within my ‘two-week boundary’.
