This was a busy week. Not as busy as the previous but busy in a different regard. I didn’t do a lot of regular writing and probably socialised a lot more so it’s not a complete loss. At the end of June, if I cannot maintain my writing targets, even out of semester, I will be dropping the word goal for both. I have a lot to think about and consider at the moment and so will likely be focusing on professional and personal development.

I did finish the other book though, Songs for the Dying, which I actually enjoyed more than I thought I would. At first the characters were grating and though the writing was good, I felt like it was a lot of ‘show and tell’. There were so many times where it was such a nice ‘showing’ and then a ‘telling’ would be tacked on after and I would just be like “no shit”. Once the story got rolling though, a lot happened that surprised me and it became a lot more exciting to read. I’ll be writing a separate post about it (if I remember) and it should be a lot better than my “review” of The Secret River because I can actually order my thoughts about this one. I think i just had too much to say on the subject of the The Secret River‘s context and wasn’t sure how to separate the book from that.

Currently, my targets for the week are at:

  • 1,929 / 10,000 for “Personal Writing”
  • 4,299 / 5,000 for “Professional Writing”

So, more or less, my current targets are a little pathetic. Going by my writing spreadsheet, I haven’t hit the ‘10,000’ mark since April. I was doing it consistently back then. I would like to blame it on stress and assignments but even then, I should at least be hitting half, right?

Let’s wish for good things this June.

That’s my Writing Reflection for the week starting the 1st June 2020.
