I’m done. I finished my walk. Towards the end my body realised I didn’t have breakfast and was a little upset with me but walking 10km is nothing compared to the fight Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have been fighting for 200 years.
Next time I’ll be joining the virtual march for NAIDOC Week with my older sister (who I’ll ask to print me a participation bib next time). And if you missed out on this walk but want to show your support in a similar way, the NAIDOC virtual march is in July. You can take a look at Clothing the Gap‘s website for more details on it. I’ll likely be putting up another post closer to the date about it.
With everything happening in the world at the moment, support and listening has never been so important. Though I’m technically part of many different minorities, I acknowledge the privilege and protection my light skin has given me. Whether it’s in Australia or America, ‘white people’ really need to step up their game and stop sitting idly by. It’s not about just doing the right thing but also stopping the wrong things.

As a side note, I also found that Hawaiian Rollercoaster was the best way to end the walk. It has effect spirit and rhythm if you’re willing on your own. That might just be my Polynesian blood singing, but it was great.

And here’s your second reminder to educate yourself and stand in solidarity with pressed people’s everywhere.
