This writing reflection is a little late, like all of my posts last week. The days are blending together and I’ve been drinking a little, causing me to spend hours on writing, watching crime shows or playing mobile games. I think I’m going to start going for morning walks, since that’s not yet restricted.
I have so many things to do and though I have them scattered across the corkboard and written in BB or in the daily planner, I just forget that I have things to do and just kind of sit in my chair thinking about writing and games.
I have been doing uni work though, it hasn’t all been either ‘writing’ or ‘unproductive’. I have assessments due this week and the next. I finished my essay and submitted it and have a critique to do today, a Zoom meeting today, tomorrow and on Thursday, a draft due on Friday and then a presentation next Monday. My group partner and I are pretty on top of our presentation, my draft is almost ready to go and I plan to smash out that critique later. One of my problems is getting through a busy week and taking a break, forgetting that there’s stuff coming the next week.
So far, if nothing changes, my current assessment schedule looks like this:
- KWB306 AT1.2: Draft Submission – 24th April
- KYB302 AT2: Presentation – 27th April
- KKB192 AT2: Letter to the Editor – 1st May
- KKB192 AT3: Protest Presentation – 20th May
- KYB302 AT3.1: Seminar Presentation – 25th May
- KYB302 AT3.2: Individual Reflection – 1st June
- KWB306 AT1.3: Finished Work – 12th June
- KWB306 AT2: Critiques – 12th June
I’m worried that I’m not understanding the direction of the assignments without being engaged in an actual class, some of the rubriks not making much sense to me or not existing at all. I think I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, I just want to graduate at the end of the year.
Currently, my targets for the week are at:
- 12,113 / 10,000 for “Personal Writing”
- 3,129/ 5,000 for “Professional Writing”
I think I’ve exhausted all of the crime shows at my disposal, bingeing them alongside writing. I’m one of those people that can rarely work in silence anymore. Something has to be playing in the background and this time it’s crime TV that I’ve been running. British crime, to be specific. But most of its now on my ‘watched’ list and I don’t have much else on my ‘to watch’ list. There are a lot of shows I want to watch that aren’t these, but if I want to watch something, I can’t use it as background sound.
I have been neglecting my blog but continuing with my writing. I’ve been doing a bit more planning than normal. I’m still working on The Demon’s Secretary and Rose in the Woods, but I have neglected my attention to TAS and The Doll. I’m currently making changes to The Demon’s Secretary and am just slowly getting on with Rose in the Woods. I’m meant to be editing TAS because the first draft is finished, but I haven’t found the motivation to start that because I prefer to do my editing with paper and pen but don’t have access to a reliable printer at the moment. I should really just suck it up and do it on the computer, even if it is a bit harder for my eyes to spot any stupidity in my writing. I just enjoy using red pen and sticky notes, although I can do that digitally and it’ll be more environmentally friendly, and likely quick to index and access information.
I’m still using Scrivener. I love it. I’m still learning how to use it, but I was also still learning how to use Word. There’s often so much in programs that people don’t need to use or know is there. I will still be using Microsoft Office for my uni work because those programs do what I need them to do for my assessment tasks. The only thing that I think will be a challenge in the future is the fact that Scrivener isn’t like Microsoft Office where I can just access files on OneDrive. I won’t be able to edit my work on computers at the uni if they don’t have Scrivener and as far as I can tell it’s not one of the Softwares available to students for free. This might force me to actually do uni work when I’m on campus and save my other work for either the books or home.
Well, that’s all for now!
That’s my Writing Reflection for the week starting the 13th April 2020.
