This week has been quite the blur. Some of the days feel slow but it’s already Sunday and I’ve really done ‘bugger all’. Well, it’s not that I’ve done nothing but most of what I’ve done (when I have been working) has been on paper. I’ve been doing a lot more note-sorting and transferring projects into Scrivener and compiling the information on them into a Scrivener Binder.

Scrivener has been a blast to use and I’ll definitely be buying. I just haven’t yet because I keep forgetting about it. It’s everything that I could want in a writing program. It suits the way I create notes and the way I work. I’ve been using the Inspector mode a lot as it gives me a quick look at what a scene/part/chapter or document it about. Having the split writing mode is also really handy as well, especially when all of my information is in one place.
I moved one of my larger projects into Scrivener, The Demon’s Secretary, and it’s taken a lot of time to compile as I want it. It wasn’t difficult, I’m just still new to the way Scrivener works and am working on a small laptop with terrible dexterity and worsening eyesight – long story short: trying to arrange the order of things with the mouse has been quite an effort.
I do recommend Scrivener. I can see how it’s not for everyone but I think it’s worth taking the 30 day free trial and seeing if it’s for you. It’s made writing a lot easier in terms of planning and coordinating my notes. The compiling function is also really interesting… though I had my fair share of arguments with it already.
Currently, my targets for the week are at:
- 9,687 / 10,000 for “Personal Writing”
- 2,228 / 5,000 for “Professional Writing”
I haven’t finished reading The Secret River like I said I would and it really is from lack of trying. I’ve only done a little bit of reading this week, when I was outside sitting in the grass with my cat. Instead I’ve just been watching a lot of crime shows while I write. And I mean a lot. I’ve almost exhausted all that are watchable on both Netflix and Stan.

I haven’t really been doing uni work. It is mid-semester break but I do have quite a bit to do before it finishes. I’m just not really motivated to do anything other than write what I want because of the lack of structure.
I’ve had a lot of tea and now have a lot of snacks. My muscles hurt, mostly just cramped from sitting down at a desk all day every day. I really do need to go back to doing exercise.
That’s my Writing Reflection for the week starting the 7th April 2020.
