This week wasn’t as busy as the week before but I definitely was as tired and less motivated. My new schedule kind of threw things up in the air and I’ve been pretty stressed. Unfortunately, I didn’t meet my targets and didn’t manage to get anything done on time for February. I’m giving myself until the end of this week to get it all caught up, or I’m going to have to re-think the way I want to set my goals. Part of it is also to blame on my poor organisation this week. I was a little overwhelmed by trying to sort out my schedule and did that thing where I just didn’t bother; a bad habit I have.
Ah well, I’ll celebrate the wins I’ve had and work harder to improve my losses. It’s important not to take a loss and let it bog you down, that’s one thing that I need to keep in mind this year.
Currently, my targets for the week are at:
- 8,344 / 10,000 for “Personal Writing”
- 3,813 / 5,000 for “Professional Writing”
I’ve written more in TAS than in The Doll. Well, quite frankly, I wrote f*ck all in The Doll. I’ve been drafting the plot and replanning how I want it to proceed so I’m hoping to pick it back up and get it done by the end of this week. TAS is finished though. The ending needs some work, but so does the entirety of it anyway. I will begin the editing phase of it once I complete The Doll, and then move onto editing The Doll in April. I’ve decided to change the schedule up a little to: 1 month story and 1 month editing. I thought about 1-6 months writing and 7-12 months editing but I think writing every second month will be better for me. Especially because I want to make sure I’m practising my editing skills. I don’t expect these to become polished projects in two months, but I just want to make sure that I’m working on refining my process and writing/editing more efficiently as I develop.
I should spin the wheel a lot better this week, although I am curious to see how much the semester affects me (and how much I let it). I’m hoping that I won’t be working as much, and I need to get a handle on my poor sleeping quality. It’s not that I don’t go to bed and get up when I need to (not anymore) but I often toss and turn and wake up at 3am, not always able to get back to sleep.
I’ve done some reading this week (not as much as I should have but more than last week), picking back up my copy of Growing Up Aboriginal in Australia (edited by Anita Heiss). If you live in Australia and are non-Indigenous, I recommend giving it a read, even if it’s only a few entries.
Bring on another week!
That’s my Writing Reflection for the week starting the 24th February 2020.
