This week was as busy as I thought it was going to be and I found it difficult to write. It wasn’t that I couldn’t find the time but I wasn’t sleeping well and ended up pretty exhausted from work, finding it hard to do anything but sleep and just stare at screens. I used yesterday to just relax and get a good night’s sleep, finally feeling awake from today.
I’ve been working hard to hit my targets, but I didn’t have nearly as many writing sessions as I wanted and most of them ended up with me writing 200 words and falling asleep with my eyes open.
Currently, my targets for the week are at:
- 10,773 / 10,000 for “Personal Writing”
- 5,146 / 5,000 for “Professional Writing”
Now, I’ve been making progress (if I can call it that) with my writing targets, but the one thing I haven’t been doing that I should be is reading. I am one of those people who have dozens of books I want to read and yet I just don’t pick them up. Half a dozen I’ve started and a dozen more that I’m yet to start (that’s not even an exaggeration). I even have the sequel to Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone on my desk and yet I’m kind of terrified to pick it up because I enjoyed the first one so much and it’s been a long time since I’ve had to lay one of my favourite fantasy places to rest and so I haven’t worked up the courage to do it. It feels like one of my anxieties; a fear that doesn’t appear logical the more I think about it over time, but for some reason, I’m just not ready to go into the sequel.
I’ve made some nice developments in my Focus Writing, and am pretty happy with how they’re nicely flowing. Of course, they’ll need a lot of work once the first draft is finally done but I’m happy that I’m back up in the writing wheel running when I thought the wheels for these pieces were rusted and dead. Let’s hope I can keep them greased and rolling. I might even be able to use one of them for my project.
By the quick calculations of my Excel spreadsheet (because I wouldn’t be able to do them on my own), I’ve made this much progress on my projects:
- The Doll – 64% (+14%)
- TAS – 78% (+5%)
I’ve spent more focus time on The Doll over TAS and am a bit behind on the schedule of getting them both complete by the end of February but I hope I can catch up. I think I might be able to complete The Doll because I now know how I want to finish it, but I haven’t quite decided on how TAS is going to proceed (probably because I haven’t been as focused on it as normal… or because I’m getting carried away with it).
Let’s hope that my future writing reflections are as positive (or more) than the last few ones I’ve kept up with!
This also marks the 100th Post on this Blog!

Keep on writing!
That’s my Writing Reflection for the week starting the 17th February 2020.
