My cat watches me with suspicion when she drinks. If I’m looking at her or moving about, she sits with her face close to the bowl but tilted in my direction, not drinking. Why is she so self-conscious about drinking? Is she vulnerable and she thinks I’m going to attack her? Does she think it would be wrong to let me know I was right in guessing her needs and filling the bowl up just that little bit more? Does she think it’s creepy of us to watch? Or is she contacting the mothership of her alien race? Is she sending a message through her tongue? Is each lap of the water actually words transmitted to someone she must report to about us? Is she a spy in the house? Is there someone on the other end relaying orders? Are they studying us? Are they observing us? Are they lying in wait? Do they communicate with the rest of the water? Do they talk to the other cats? How many are there? Are they coming? Are they hostile? Are they about to launch an attack…
