I’ve always wanted to go on a voyage. On one of those tall, long ships made from wood and hard labour. A rocket ship is kind of like a sea ship. Except that it’s made of steel and flies through space. But then space is just another kind of ocean, with absence instead of water. This ship was built by engineering computers. It sails effortlessly, rarely shaken or bumped. Not like how the wooden ships would be at the mercy of the emotions of the seas. It runs on fuel and is almost never manned by an actual person. Not like how the wooden ships had a crew and captain to utilise at every moment. A crew who bonded over the experiences they shared. It would be dangerous, there would be hardships no doubt… but I would feel alive. I wouldn’t feel trapped in this steel container seeing the same things and the same faces every day. I would be able to feel rain and wind on my face and let the sun touch me without having to look through a window. I would be able to feel that living world and still sail under the stars.
