For breakfast, we had some cereal (if there was any) and maybe some buttered toast (if there was any left). Maybe there was something left over from the night before or some milk or juice to drink. Sometimes it was a slice of cheese on bread.

For lunch, we sometimes had recess food (if she hadn’t eaten it all at home) or we saved some coins and would buy something warm from the canteen. Occasionally we might have an apple. At home it might be sauce on bread. Or cereal (if there was any).

For dinner, it was usually sausages. Sometimes we would have potatoes to cut up and fry and sometimes it would be the left over barbecue chicken from the night before. Sometimes she would actually cook (for a few months in the beginning she did). The meals became the same things and eventually became our own thing to look for. When we got money we would buy frozen meals to eat each night, but that costed us our breakfast and lunch. Or we would just snack on whatever we could find in the house, even if it was a little old. Or cereal (if there was any).
