I’m a bit late for this post as NAIDOC week is about to end. This week I had a lot on my plate but I wanted to make sure I made my acknowledgement. I made earlier posts for NAIDOC when it was originally meant to happen earlier this year and what I would like to say is mostly reflective of those.
If you don’t know what NAIDOC is, why?
LEARN ABOUT IT HERE
Don’t have the ability to travel at the moment?
There are events online that you can participate in. You can find some of these on the NAIDOC website as well. You can also engage in different ways that aren’t restricted to NAIDOC week, such as engaging with and learning about Indigenous Australian culture and peoples.
Worried you don’t know enough to participate?
There’s information everywhere online and there are people who are willing to get you started. The important thing is that you also make the decision to educate yourself on these matters.
When it comes to the knowledges and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, especially when you are a non-Indigenous Australian, it’s important to remember that First Nations People are not obligated to educate you on what non-Indigenous Australia has done. Do not expect to be spoon-fed; take the initiative to learn yourself.
Connect to Country Virtual Run
On the weekend of the 20th-22nd I’ll be participating in the Connect to Country Virtual Event that Clothing the Gap is hosting to celebrate NAIDOC week. For more information, take a look at their website Clothing the Gap!
