Time is of the essence for this semester, well, more like management of time is of the essence. I want to be able to juggle the goals I have without dropping them too many times and so I’ve tried to be pretty diligent when looking at what commitments I have, trying to make sure I’m realistically setting time goals whilst also leaving “play time”, because I know trying to restrict my time to a schedule revolving only around what I need to do will just drive me insane.
I’ve got the time, I just need to use it wisely.
I’ve Signed myself up to some Events
Unlike the previous years, I’m taking advantage of the opportunities afforded to me by my faculty. This is something that I would really recommend you do if you’re a fellow uni student and have a lot of workshops/lectures available to you that focus on something specific but it not necessarily part of your classes. Most universities have all of this accessible on the student hub page, so take a gander and see what you can find. I’ve even been taking a look at some of the more general workshops that are aimed at students regardless of faculty, but I don’t know how useful they’ll be to me in my third year.
In the coming weeks I’ll be attending four different events:
- SCP Welcome
- Research for writers
- Psychoanalytic theory and mythic structure and application to writing
- Publishing insights
The SCP welcome is related directly to one of my units; Situated Creative Practice is what it’s called. I’m hoping to just pick up tips and little bits of experience from the other three events. In the past couple of years, I’ve actually been doing research on some of the projects that I’m writing and so I’m keen for “Research for writers”. I’ve always like applying what little bits of psychology I have in my knowledge base to my writing and so I’m also eager to sit in on the “Psychoanalytic theory” lecture. The “Publishing insights” will just be good for me to go to in general because I’ll be hearing real-world experience on something integral to want.
My Timetable for Semester 1, 2020
My timetable will really revolve around self-study this semester. I only have three actual classes I need to attend: two workshops and one lecture. The workshops will be lengthy, as well as the lecture, and so though it looks like a compacted timetable, there will still be a lot to take in.
My uni schedule only goes from Mon-Wed, which is really nice and neat for me. My two workshops are Monday and Tuesday and then I have my lecture on Wednesday. The range of times for my classes are 9am-2pm and so I have the afternoon available to me after each of them, which will be good to get my summaries done on time.
I’m not exactly sure on my what my schedule for my SCP project will look like just yet and I have a few worries about requirements that weren’t laid out in the application but may be necessary for me to have. Hopefully, all of this becomes clearer to me later.
